"Have you ever seen God?"
- a mandala. A symmetrical angel.
Felt? yes. Fucking. The Sun.
Heard? Music. Voice
Touched? an animal. your hand.
Tasted? Rare meat, corn, water,
& wine.
I received an Aztec wall
of vision
& dissolved my room in
sweet derision
Closed my eyes, prepared to go
A gentle wind inform'd me so
And bathed my skin in ether glow
how can we hate or love or judge
in the sea-swarm world of atoms
All one, one All
How can we play or not play
How can we put one foot before us
or revolutionize or write
Celebration of the Lizard
Once I had, a little game
I liked to crawl back into my brain
I think you know the game I mean
I mean the game called 'go insane'
Now you should try this little game
Just close your eyes forget your name
Forget the world forget the people
And we'll erect a different steeple
This little game is fun to do
Just close your eyes no way to lose
And I'm right there I'm going too
Release control we're breaking thru
Way back deep into the brain
Back where there's never any pain
And the rain falls gently on the town
And in the labyrinth of streams
Beneath, the quiet unearthly presence of
Nervous hill dwellers in the gentle hills around
Reptiles abounding
Fossils, caves, cool air heights
American Prayer
Do you know the warm progress
Under the stars?
Do you know we exist?
Have you forgotten the keys
To the kingdom
Have you been borne yet
& are you alive?
-
O great creator of being
Grant us one more hour to
Perform our art
& perfect our lives
The moths & atheists are doubly divine
& dying
We live, we die
& death not ends it
-
We’re perched headlong
On the edge of boredom
We’re reaching for death
On the end of a candle
We’re trying for something
That’s already found us
-
Thoughts in time and out of season
The Hitchhiker
Stood by the side of the road
And leveled his thumb
In the calm calculus of reason
-
The movie will begin in five moments
The mindless voice announced
All those unseated will await the next show.
We filed slowly, languidly into the hall
The auditorium was vast and silent
As we seated and were darkened, the voice
continued.
The program for this evening is not new
You've seen this entertainment through and
through
You've seen your birth your life and death
you might recall all of the rest
Did you have a good world when you died?
Enough to base a movie on?
-
They are waiting to take us into the severed
garden
Do you know, how pale and wanton thrillful
Comes death in a strange hour
Unannounced, unplanned for
like a scaring over-friendly guest you´ve brought
to bed
Death makes angels of us all and gives us wings
Where we had shoulders, smooth as ravens claws
No more money, no more fancy dress
This other kingdom seems by far the best
Until it´s other jaw reveals incest
And loose obidience to a vegetable law
I will not go
Prefer a feast of friends
To the giant family
The Opening of the Trunk
- Moment of inner freedom
when the mind is opened & the
infinite universe revealed
& the soul is left to wander
dazed & confus'd searching
here & there for teachers & friends.
Moment of Freedom
as the prisoner
blinks in the sun
like a mole
from his hole
a child's first trip
away from home
That moment of Freedom
Power
I can make the earth stop in
its tracks. I made the
blue cars go away.
I can make myself invisible or small.
I can become gigantic & reach the
farthest things. I can change
the course of nature.
I can place myself anywhere in
space or time.
I can summon the dead.
I can perceive events on other worlds,
in my deepest inner mind,
& in the minds of others.
I can
I am
Jim Morrison
Selected Mystical Poetry
The following pieces are obviously
inspired by Jim's LSD use. Visions tend
to take on a kaleidescopic mandalic
nature; the abstraction of "God" can take
on the appearance of a "symmetrical
angel," as in a symmetrical
transcendental vision.
The "Aztec wall of vision" is a very
common motif under high doses of LSD
and also DMT, although I doubt Jim
ever had access to it.
